Dragonwycke Ranch is located in Tres Piedras, New Mexico, overlooking the Taos Valley, Rio Grande Gorge and Sangre de Christo mountains. The Carson National Forest borders two sides of the property and contains 1.5 million acres of Ponderosa pine, Piñon, Cedar and Juniper; making an ideal neighbor!
We have two spring fed ponds on the ranch, which is rare on this side of the Rio Grande. Having water available all year round allows the ranch to support a wide array of wildlife. Rabbits(cottontails and jacks), coyote, elk, multiple varieties of hawks and falcons, migratory ducks, Sand Hill Cranes, and Canadian Geese are but a few of our seasonal inhabitants. Dragonwycke's Pre - Cambrian granite boulders were formed some 1.5 Billion years ago and are some of the oldest surface rock formations in the United States.
Our Log Cabin is over 100 years old and was used by the owner of the Stagecoach that took Taos visitors from the Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot in Tres Piedras into the town of Taos. The old railroad right-of-way is still visible about a ¼ of a mile to the east of the property and is a part of the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad that still operates as a tourist line from Antonito (about 30 miles north) to Chama under the name of Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge Railroad.
Wildflowers abound on the ranch, with over 100 varieties blooming throughout the summer months. One in particular stands out, Haplopappus Microcephalus, located only in this particular area of the world.
